MANILA JOINS NATIONWIDE SWITCH-ON


July 16, 2008 MANILA JOINS NATIONWIDE SWITCH-ON. The City of Manila joined this morning’s nationwide shift of lighting systems to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), which have the same strength and luminosity as fluorescent lamps but have longer lives. CFLs are energy savers and eco-friendly lighting systems, which the national government would now use in all its offices. President Arroyo led the ceremonial switch on to CFLs at the PICC, which Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim attended. The JOW project is designed to declog the Manila City Jail and other holding facilities in the country through swifter dispensation of justice to inmates, releasing those 70 years old or more and those whose cases have been pending beyond the prescribed period of penalty for their offenses. The JOW was also launched at the Manila Youth Reception Center. JOW will be operating in the City of Manila for the next three months after which it will do the rounds of other city and municipal jails of the country. June 25, 2008 LIM GIFTS ARAULLO HIGH SCHOOL WITH NEW BUILDING. As part of 102 nd founding anniversary of Araullo High School in Manila. Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim inaugurated and turned over to the school’s administration a new four-storey building and activity center to augment its current facilities to accommodate the growing enrollees of the school. The new building was funded by the City government despite its yawning budget deficit of over P1.4 billion, which the Mayor said should not be an excuse for delaying investment in his priority programs foremost of which is education. Lim said the building is nothing without the teachers, students and their parents and he asked the students to “study very hard and never to forget to show your gratitude to your parents for all their hardships.”

June 11, 2008 P1,000 CASH FOR SPECIAL KIDS: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim gave away P1,000 cash to 238 special children of the city’s elementary and high schools as financial assistance to their families. 		June 10, 2008 BARANGAY HALL REMOVED. On instruction of Mayor Alfredo S. Lim, the City Engineer’s Office of Manila under Engineer Armando L. Andres has cleared the area surrounding the statue of Roman Ongpin, one of the financiers of the Philippine revolution against Spain, of the barangay hall, signages and other obstructions. De Guzman and City Administrator Jesus Mari Marzan (at center) led the City Hall personnel that conducted the inspection of Al Eria Suites Dormitory along P. Noval St. in Sampaloc, Manila.
