Lim hands over cash worth P5,500 from his pocket to tricycle driver, Abraham Cariño, 44 and resident of Blumentritt for his honesty in returning a green plastic envelope with P55,350 left by his passenger Thursday night to Barangay Chairman Danny Aquino of Barangay 385 Zone 39 (Quiapo) who in turn took Cariño to Congresswoman Zenaida Angpin and Angpin referred him to the Mayor. Cariño was presented a model for honesty by the Mayor to hundreds of participants in the regular Peoples Day at Bulwagang Villegas. He was also hired on the spot by the Mayor to work for City Hall. The City of Manila joined this morning’s nationwide shift of lighting systems to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), which have the same strength and luminosity as fluorescent lamps but have longer lives. CFLs are energy savers and eco-friendly lighting systems, which the national government would now use in all its offices. Lim talk to the inmates of the Manila City Jail, where the SC Chief launched his Justice On Wheels project at the City of Manila Wednesday. The JOW project is designed to declog the Manila City Jail and other holding facilities in the country through swifter dispensation of justice to inmates, releasing those 70 years old or more and those whose cases have been pending beyond the prescribed period of penalty for their offenses. The JOW was also launched at the Manila Youth Reception Center. JOW will be operating in the City of Manila for the next three months after which it will do the rounds of other city and municipal jails of the country. LIM GIFTS ARAULLO HIGH SCHOOL WITH NEW BUILDING. As part of 102 nd founding anniversary of Araullo High School in Manila. Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim inaugurated and turned over to the school’s administration a new four-storey building and activity center to augment its current facilities to accommodate the growing enrollees of the school. The new building was funded by the City government despite its yawning budget deficit of over P1.4 billion, which the Mayor said should not be an excuse for delaying investment in his priority programs foremost of which is education. Lim said the building is nothing without the teachers, students and their parents and he asked the students to “study very hard and never to forget to show your gratitude to your parents for all their hardships.”
