LIM SIGNS ORDINANCE 7177: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim signs Ordinance 7177, saying it was one of the most difficult and painful thing he had faced since he assumed office as local chief executive. Mayor Lim announced that from hereon all senior citizens who celebrate their birthdays will be receiving gifts from the city—provided they show their birth certificates—and their gifts will be delivered to them by Manila Department of Social Welfare under OIC Jay de la Fuente.

HEALTH ON WHEELS LAUNCHED: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and Rev. Fr. Rene Ruelos, parish priest of San Vicente de Paul in UN Avenue, emerges from inside the Health on Wheels truck, which was blessed and launched Friday at the City College of Manila. The truck will be deployed in all six districts of the city to provide Manilans with free medical (laboratory, ECG, minor surgery), pharmacy and dental services. FREEDOM HALL’S NEW LOOK: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim opens the newly-renovated Freedom Hall at the south wing of City Hall, beside the Freedom Park flagpole where dignitaries used to be welcomed and given a tour of the entire City Hall. It was abandoned for decades and converted into counters for the issuance of community tax certificate only. The renovation entailed changing the floors, ceilings, windows, walls and the chandeliers with new ones. The new chandeliers use the energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs. HUNDREDS TAIL LIM’S CHRISTMAS WHEELCHAIR : Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim not only gave a wheelchair to 73-year old Luzvimin Dimaano of San Diego st. in Sampaloc last December 27, 2008 but he also gamely pushed her as her neighbors joined the Mayor during the brief walk. The Mayor gave away 50 wheelchairs to qualified Manila residents in 2008 and for 2009, he will be giving away 200 chairs (donated by the medical fraternity of students from the UP-PGH). The Mayor urged the barangay officials to schedule with his office their constituents who should be getting the donations.

THE BOSS SPEAKS : Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim voices his orders to the chiefs of the different precincts and commands of the Manila Police District at his annual command conference held at the Oval Office at City Hall this morning. At the conference, the Mayor spelled out his order on no vendor policy throughout the city, the removal of all police community precincts except in areas where such is necessary (like business areas and crime-prone areas), the revival of the beat patrols, the adoption of three shifts and for the motorcycle and special weapons and tactics team to join in patrolling the city to serve as deterrents criminality. With the Mayor are City Legal Officer Atty. Renato de la Cruz and Chief of Staff Ricardo de Guzman, concurrent chief of the Media Bureau.
