MANILA WELCOMES DONAIRE WITH A VICTORY MOTORCADE: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday lauded boxing champ Nonito `The Filipino Flash’ Donaire, Jr. for once again bringing glory and pride to the country by successfully defending his title as World Boxing Association super flyweight champion. Donaire also thanked Lim and the officials and people of Manila for making him family and a part of the city. “Special people who help me out and support me give me inspiration.  They are part of my victory and of me pag andun na `ko sa ring,” he added. Lim praised Donaire for his humility amid all the successes he had been reaping, even as he expressed confidence that he will reach greater heights in the world of boxing. P-NOY, LIM VISIT BASYANG VICTIMS: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday accompanied President Benigno Aquino in visiting the 332 families from Isla Puting Bato and Parola in Tondo affected by typhoon “Basyang.” Lim said Manilans are lucky to have a President who truly cares for them. The typhoon victims were evacuated at the Del Pan Complex. The President and the mayor were assisted by Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman and city social welfare chief Jay dela Fuente in giving away relief goods, clothes and blankets. Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim led the distribution of relief goods to 177 familes victims of typhoon "Basyang" in Baseco Compound, Tondo. From the typhoon victims, Lim, De Guzman and Dela Fuente also visited the 135 families whose houses were razed by a fire in Lerma, Sampaloc. The residents camped out along the said street following the fire rummaging for things they can still salvage or beginning to build their houses anew. Lim ordered Dela Fuente to provide the fire and typhoon victims three square meals a day for three straight days aside from relief goods, clothings and blankets. (Photo by Tony Cunanan)

LIM DESTROYS GAMBLING MACHINES: Lim destroys some 100 units of video karera machines, fruit games and color game boards which usually lure youngsters into gambling. Mayor Lim directed social welfare department chief Jay dela Fuente to spearhead a renewed campaign against all forms of illegal gambling in the city, especially those to which minors have ready access and to coordinate closely with the new Manila Police District (MPD) Director, Senior Supt. Alex Gutierrez to ensure the success of the campaign. Lim said his office is being swamped with complaints from concerned parents, teachers and residents regarding the proliferation of illegal gambling activities where even minors are given access. BREAKFAST TREAT FROM LIM: Barangay officials of Manila were treated Saturday morning to a breakfast by Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim at his residence in Tondo, during which he exhorted them to follow the example of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III in not using sirens and blinkers in their cars, banning gambling and extortion or tong, comply with all the requirements of the Commission on Audit on the use and release of funds and other commonplace but proper governance ethics that the President spelled out in his inaugural speech. LIM ADMINISTERS OATH TO CITY OFFICIALS: Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim yesterday called on the councilors that comprise the new city council to take their newly-received mandate as a challenge to give their all for the upliftment of the life of their constituents who voted them into office. Earlier on, Lim swore into office vice mayor Francisco `Isko Moreno’ Domagoso during simple rites held at the Bulwagang Antonio Villegas in City Hall. Moreno introduce the members of the new council who will also be taking their oath before Lim. They were (first district)- Nino dela Cruz, Irma Alfonso-Yuson  and Erick Ian Nieva; (2nd district) Rodolfo Lacsamana, Ruben Buenaventura, Ramon Robles and Edward Tan; (3rd district)-Bernardito Ang and Re Fugoso; (fourth district)- Ma. Sheilah Lacuna-Pangan, Edward V.P. Maceda and Atty. Eduardo Quintos XVI; (fifth district)- Richard Ibay, Josefina Siscar and Raymundo Yupangco; (sixth district)- Dennis Lacuna,Jr., Beth Rivera and Luciano Veloso.
