A cart-pushing scavenger of old newspapers and bottles. It was truly unique success story that happened to Isko Moreno. But where did his determination to escape poverty and provide for his family come from?
A former teen idol and a three-time councilor of the 1st District of Manila, Isko Moreno was born Francisco Domagoso, to a seaman and his second wife. Because he was part of a second family, most of his father's income went to his first family, and plenty of time, Isko and his mother had to fend for themselves. His mother taught him well however - instructing Isko on how to find honest, alternative sources of income in their tough Tondo neighborhood.
And it worked: starting from Grade 4, Isko was already pushing a cart in order to gather old newspapers and glass bottles to re-sell to a junk dealer. But it was in his early teens that Isko's life truly changed. After being spotted by a talent manager, Isko embarked on a showbiz career that brought him wealth and fame. (source: SunStar)
How did Isko win against his heavyweight opponents in this year's vice mayoral race?
"I am a sincere man. I have no money. All I had was the people's trust and belief that I would do something good for the city when I make it to the top."
Isko said not being a partymate of Mayor Lim is not a problem.
"While he is from Pwersang Masa and I am from Kampi, I will fully cooperate with his rules and policies provided they are for the good of the majority." (source: Balita)
